Mortal Shell 2 Difficulty: Choose the Right First-Run Pressure
A practical difficulty guide for deciding when to use Harden, night mode, stronger Shells and safer routes without turning challenge into a fake tier list.
Separate route difficulty from enemy difficulty
A late dungeon, a boss gate and Night Mode create different kinds of pressure. Do not treat a higher drop table as proof that a route is efficient for a first clear.
Use the defensive fallback first
When attack tells are unfamiliar, Untarnished guard and Vatra Harden preserve a readable next decision. Infinite is stronger after the cue is known, not before.
Turn on Night Mode for a purpose
Night Mode raises enemy pressure and rewards, but it is best used for a prepared cleanup run, a specific hidden area or a resource target rather than as a default story setting.
Know when to leave
If a route costs more healing and Gloom than its reward justifies, mark the location and return after a Shell, Tarforge part or weapon upgrade changes the matchup.
Use a simple pressure ladder
Start with the normal story route, then add one pressure change at a time: a harder boss attempt, a new Seal, Night Mode or a late dungeon. If two changes arrive together, you cannot tell which one caused the failure or whether the reward justified it.
