Mortal Shell 2 Seals: Guard, Parry and Harden Roles

Compare the defensive Seals by the job they perform, the fallback they provide and the moment when switching is worth the cost.

Start with the fallback

Untarnished is the forgiving read because an early input can become a guard. Infinite turns a clean read into a committed parry, while Vatra changes the answer to a Harden interrupt.

Choose by enemy, not reputation

Use the Seal whose failure state you can survive against the current enemy. A lower theoretical reward with a guard fallback is more valuable than a perfect parry you cannot repeat.

Build a practice loop

Choose one enemy, one attack and one short punish. Repeat until the cue is consistent, then move the same test to the next Seal. Group fights hide which animation caused the mistake.

Return to the route

After changing Seals, replay the same Beacon or boss approach instead of judging the build in a new dungeon. Consistent comparison is more useful than a single successful attempt.

Change one variable at a time

Keep the enemy, arena and weapon constant when comparing Seals. Change only guard, parry or Harden, repeat the same attack and record whether the fallback saved the attempt. This turns a vague “build feels bad” result into a useful next choice.
